The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah is the subject of a new Hulu documentary delving into her legal drama, after her alleged involvement in a $5million telemarketing scam earlier this year.
Shah was arrested for fraud and money laundering in March, and according to federal prosecutors, is one of six suspects with ‘greater culpability’ in the scheme.
The Bravo reality star has repeatedly denied the claims.
Cashing in: RHOSLC’s Jen Shah is the subject of new Hulu documentary The Housewife & the Shah Shocker… about her alleged involvement in $5M telemarketing scam
Titled ‘The Housewife & the Shah Shocker’ the new doc follows the successful ‘The Housewife and the Hustler’ show that covered RHOBH’s Erika Jayne and Tom Girardi’s embezzlement scandal.
In a trailer released Thursday, the show promises to detail Shah’s ‘alleged involvement in a long-running telemarketing scheme that preyed on the elderly.’
It features interviews with friends of Shah, including her childhood friend Cherise Newson and her aunt Lehua Vincent.
Drama: The star is seen teary-eyed on an episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City
Legal woes: RHOSLC’s Jen Shah named as ‘suspect with greater culpability’ by US attorney in alleged $5m telemarketing scam (Pictured outside a federal courthouse in March this year)
Victim speaks out: The doc talks to two victims of the alleged scam (one of them is pictured above)
In a rare interview, Shah’s former designer Koa Johnson also opens up about his brief time working with her.
Interviews with alleged victims Penny Joe and Yvonne Marie reveal how they were duped by several companies involved in the alleged scam and the damage that wreaked havoc in their lives, while law enforcement breaks down the inner workings of the alleged scam.
In the trailer one of the victims is asked what she would say to the scammers if she had the chance – to which the woman’s replies: ‘Would you do this to your own mother?’
Deny: Shah has repeatedly denied the claims against her
The Bravo star was arrested in late March for allegedly targeting ‘vulnerable, often elderly, working-class people’ out of money, and she plead not guilty and was subsequently released on strict conditions.
She is now awaiting a fraud trial where she could face up to 30 years jail time if found guilty over her alleged involvement in a $5M telemarketing scheme.
Shah previously asked a judge to toss out the criminal charges against her, complaining of ‘trickery’ by law enforcement officers and claims she involuntarily waived her Miranda rights after being arrested.
Family: Shah’s husband Sharieff, a football coach at the University of Utah, regularly appears by her side on RHOSLC and the couple has two sons Omar, 17, and Sharrieff Jr., 26
Shah claims she signed a document waiving her Miranda rights without knowing what it was because her contact lenses weren’t working properly at the time.
‘My contact lenses, which were in my eyes, were dry, and I did not have my reading glasses, so my vision was blurry and I was unable to read the paper in front of me,’ she attested in an affidavit.
Her attorneys argue that law enforcement had employed ‘deception and trickery calculated to overpower her will.’
The Next Chapter in ‘The Housewife’ series begins streaming Monday, Nov. 29, on Hulu.
