How can you capture the face of a cat who squints when the camera is pointed at them? This was the challenge for felt artist WakuNeco, who creates hyperrealistic cat portraits. The needle felting is a process of interlocking wool fibers together with a barbed needle, and it’s an exacting art.
In the video above, WakuNeco spends a few months creating a portrait with just a few photos to go by. In the end, the cat’s owner was pleased to finally have a furry image of their beloved pet that they couldn’t capture with their camera.
WakuNeco has always created wool felt cat portraits that are realistic, but in the last few years, the framed cats look even more lifelike. The video above doesn’t share as much of the fur-crafting, but this video does.
