BIOGRAPHY OF BIG BOI
Antwan André Patton, originally from Savannah, Georgia, better known by his stage name Big Boi, is a well-known rapper, songwriter, actor and record producer, best known for being a member of American hip hop duo Outkast alongside ‘André 3000. Big Boi’s work in the duo has produced six studio albums.
In July 2010, Big Boi’s solo debut Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was released to respectable sales and critical acclaim. In 2012, he released his second studio album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. In June 2017, he released his third studio album, Boomiverse.
BIG BOI FIRST LIFE
Patton was born in Savannah, Georgia, and spent the first half of his childhood there, attending Herschel V. Jenkins High School, before moving to Atlanta with his Aunt Renne. Eventually, Patton decided to pursue his interest in music at Tri-Cities High School, a Magnet school of visual and performing arts.
CAREER BIG BOI SOLO
After four increasingly successful albums as a duo, the two members of Outkast opted to make two solo albums and release them as a double album under the name Outkast. Patton published Speakerboxxx and André 3000 published The Love Below. In 2003, the two albums were combined as Speakerboxxx / The Love Below. Speakerboxxx featured a similar style to previous Outkast efforts, while The Love Below explored more offbeat territory, with André 3000 mostly singing rather than rapping as usual. In September 2003, one song from each album was released as a single.
Patton’s pick was the single “The Way You Move,” featuring Sleepy Brown. It was originally backed by urban radio, but then rose to the pop charts and became almost as popular a hit as ‘Hey Ya!’ From Benjamin. ‘Hi you!’ was supplanted by “The Way You Move” as the #1 song on the US pop charts. The second single, ‘Ghetto Musick’, from Big Boi’s side of the album featured both Outkast members and a snippet of Patti LaBelle’s ‘Love, Need and Want You’.
Patton released a mixtape/compilation album on November 22, 2005, Got Purp? Vol 2, in collaboration with the Purple Ribbon All-Stars through Purple Ribbon Records; Aquemeni Records had lapsed after Benjamin left the company. ‘Kryptonite’ was the lead single from the album which reached 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. Patton also featured in the lead single from UGK’s album from Underground Kingzon the song ‘International Players Anthem (I Choose You) ‘,.
Following 2007’s sixth album as Outkast, Idlewild, Big Boi announced plans to release a full-fledged solo album. While Big Boi had released a previous solo album in Speakerboxxx, it was still technically under the name Outkast. The album was to be titled Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. ‘Royal Flush’, which was the album’s first promotional single, was released in 2007 and featured Raekwon and André 3000. The album suffered many delays over the next few years, but several promotional and video singles were released. released as ‘Shine Blockas’ with Gucci Mane, ‘For Yo Sorrows’ with George Clinton and Too Short and ‘General Patton’ with Big Rube.
‘Shutterbugg’ which was the first official single featured Cutty and the second ‘Follow Us’ featuring Vonnegutt. On July 5, the album was released internationally. Guest artists include alternative urban singer Janelle Monáe; Big Boi’s New Vonnegutt Group; plus established rappers BoB and T.I.. Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty received acclaim from most music critics, he was hailed for his inventive sound, varied musical style and Big Boi’s lyricism.
It was announced on February 27, 2011 that Patton was creating a joint album with rappers Mike Bigga and Pill. Big Boi later announced on April 28, 2011 that he would be working with Modest Mouse on their upcoming album Strangers to Ourselves. These collaborations have yet to surface.
Patton revealed in a July 2010 interview for The Village Voice that he was working on Sir Lucious Left Foot’s follow-up album, titled Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, stating he was ‘maybe about six songs in it. ‘. Patton later revealed in 2012 that he was already ten songs deep into his third studio album. In January 2014, he reiterated his plans for a new studio album. Big Boi was featured on the Catch The Throne mixtape with the song ‘Mother of Dragons’, on March 7, 2014, it was released as a free download on SoundCloud by HBO to promote the fourth season of Game of Thrones.
It was announced on March 21, 2014 that Big Boi had signed a management deal with Jordan Feldstein’s Career Artist Management. It was also revealed on May 10, 2014 that Big Boi had signed a recording contract with Epic Records.
Patton revealed on April 19, 2017 that his third studio album would be titled Boomiverse, and two singles, “Mic Jack” featuring Adam Levine and “Kill Jill” featuring Killer Mike and Jeezy, would be released the following day. Big Boi signed to LA Reid and Charles Goldstuck’s new label Hitco Music in 2018.
ACTING CAREER BIG BOI
Big Boi appeared in season 3 and season 5 on Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘n Out as one of many guest stars, and also performed and performed as a musical guest on Chappelle’s Show performing his song ” The Rooster”. He turned to cinematic acting in 2006, appearing in ATL and Idlewild, followed by a starring role in Who’s Your Caddy? he is a playable character in the video game Def Jam: Icon. Multidisciplinary collaborations
Big Boi began a collaboration on a new show with the Atlanta Ballet in 2008. From April 10-13, 2008, the show titled big, premiered at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. The show was performed by local youth and talent, dancers from the Atlanta Ballet, choreographed by Lauri Stallings. Music can be played live on stage during the performance, as was the case when the ballet created a live music/dance collaboration with the Indigo Girls.
Big Boi was featured by Owl City in one of four versions of his song, “Alligator Sky” in 2011. Although the version of the track featuring him never made it past the stage of a demo, it was leaked on the Internet the same year of the official version of the track.

BIG BOI OUTKAST, ANDRE 3000
In the early 1990s, Patton had a strong interest in hip-hop music and met André “3000” Benjamin while attending Tri-Cities High School. Eventually the two joined forces as Outkast and signed with LaFace Records. He has often used his lyrics to criticize issues that plague both the African American community and the world. Big Bo was returning from a cruise in August 2011 when a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement drug dog at the Port of Miami alerted officers. Big Bo was arrested and charged with illegal possession of MDMA powder and Viagra. Big Boi was released from Miami-Dade County Jail on $16,000 bond.

Big Boi said in an interview with New York’s Hot 97 that the day after the 2012 U.S. presidential election, a white woman approached him at an airport and congratulated him on “his victory last night” ( referring to Barack Obama’s reelection), to which Big Boi replied, “Bitch, I voted for Gary Johnson.” He has since confirmed his libertarian political ideologies.
