Best thing I ate: This sandwich contains a cheeseburger, brisket AND a bone-in smoked rib

Behold the MAC Rib Burger. I typically do not get excited about carnival food served in restaurants. But Im making an exception for this beast of a sandwich because everything about it is delicious and I cant stop thinking about it.

I’m not going to debate whether something can technically be called a burger when it’s made with toasted bread instead of a bun. You’ll have to take that up with the chef. Just know that this monster burger/sandwich at Craft by Smoke and Fire in Anaheim is legit. It is, however, meant for sharing, so you’ll want to bring a friend.

If you take a look at the photo, that bread might appear to be normal, thinly sliced white bread. But the camera doesn’t always capture the scale. The bread is indeed very thickly sliced and buttered Texas toast. The bottom piece is layered with two smash-burger beef patties and cheese, along with pickles and onion jam. The middle piece of toast is topped with caramelized brisket and a slow-smoked beef rib. The top slice is slathered with Southern-style comeback sauce and tangy barbecue sauce. The bone slides out easily, leaving you with a heck of a Dagwood. Unless you have a six-inch opening where your mouth is, you might need to remove two inches of rib meat and eat that separately with a knife and fork. Or just a fork, really. The barbecue is very tender.

This new restaurant on Anaheim’s Center Street Promenade is an offshoot of Craft & Smoke in La Habra, lead by chef Isaias Hernandez. Add this burger to your bucket list. It might be a good idea to eat this right away, though, before you start thinking about those new year’s resolutions.
